Boulder Dash

Boulder dash was a really old game.  But it is getting a 40th anniversary edition on new systems.  So I guess it belongs in modern now.

Funny enough the article itself starts with:

“The classic puzzle game that first launched in 1984 for Atari 8-bit computers, Boulder Dash, will be making a return sometime at the end of 2024. “

 

I guess the title is just to get most NES-gen retro gamers to take note?

Uhh it is on the NES, and Gameboy too.  Didn't start there, came years later, but it is on those.  Odds are like he said above, if you want the most buyers for a rebirth of sorts, to play up to the popular kids on the block.

According to the listing on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3124310/BOULDER_DASH_40th_Anniversary/), it will be a game that celebrates the 40th anniversary.  Personally, while a new game is nice, this is a pass for me as I would prefer to see a collection of the various Boulder Dash titles over the years, though I am sure that is unlikely to happen.

For what it's worth if you read the bulletpoints all the original levels are there to play from v1, v2, and v3 of the old game.  That's on top of 180 new ones.  I just noticed they did this same kind of anniversary thing 10 years ago, and that's all up for sale still on the same account.
