General maintenance and repair questions/procedures inquiry

I'm hoping someone can help answer a few Colecovision repair questions.  I am trying to figure out the general consensus on necessary and/or recommended repairs or preventative maintenance.

 

I currently have five units on my bench that need some work. All in various different states of function.

On all of them:

I've already disassembled and cleaned the power switches.

Adjusted the audio pot for two units that had only static for audio

 

Now the questions 
1. If I'm replacing bad controller chips with the units from Console5 that have integrated ESD protection. Do I also want the Ruggers Customs ESD boards? Or is that overkill or even potentially problematic?
2. Is recapping these units strictly necessary like some other vintage systems? Or is it just good practice in general, given their age? 
3. Is there something I'm missing?
