flicky
I've acquired what looks like a Super Cross Force cartridge by Spectravideo for the Atari 8-bits. It has the same size connector as my other Atari 8-bit carts, but doesn't appear on any of the Atari 8-bit cartridge release lists I've seen, even as a vaporware item. Needless to say the cartridge doesn't work on any of my machines, and I've tried it on a 400, 800, 800XL and 65XE. All just produce a blank screen. This has got me wondering - could this cartridge be for any other format, i.e. is there any other cartridge format that's very similar to that of the Atari 8-bit systems? I can scan the cart tomorrow if anyone's interested in seeing it. Any help much appreciated! Thanks Jon
Randy California
Had exactly the same program in my hands a while ago but discovered it wasn't for the A8. Don't remember the system (could be the SVI computers) but definitely not Atari. ++ RC ++
+davidcalgary29
Someone sold a lot of 8-bit carts a few weeks ago that had a Spectra Video cart embedded in it. Someone posted pics on this site, and it was determined to be (I believe) a C64 cart. Perhaps yours is for the C64 as well.
flicky
It's definitely not a C64 cart - I have this machine as well and the cartridge doesn't fit the slot on the C64. Thanks Jon
birdie3
Keep trying. Both of my XE's have trouble with some carts. They have to be fiddled with for them to be seated properly in the cart slot. Try putting it in and then moving it to the left or the right a bit before you turn your unit on. ZylonBane
Right. It's a Colecovision cart.
Mindfield
You sure? A8 cartridges are smaller than Colecovision cartriges, and they're very easy to tell apart. Plus, Super Cross Force was released for the Spectravideo SVI-318/328 in '83, and their carts are similar in size and shape to A8 carts. birdie3
Hehehe.. OK. I was just trying to be helpful. Sorry about that. I obviously have no idea what I am talking about. Just try what I recommended for A8 carts that seem dead because they might not be. Once again, sorry for the wrong information.
video game addict
I'm not familar with the SVI, but wasn't there also another platform that accepted C64 carts, was not a C64 thou. Would have to of been close in size, but these carts would probably not work on a C64.
Esc
Isn't it a MSX Cartridge? In the late 80's and early 90's they made a computer standard called "MSX" and a bunch of companies made this type of computer. It was big in Europe, but never amounted to anything in North America. I think Panasonic and Spectravision were two of them. This cart may be for the MSX platform.
Mindfield
As far as I can tell, neither Cross Force nor Super Cross Force were released for the MSX or Sam Coupe. The only systems the latter seems to have been released for is Spectravideo SVI and Colecovision, and since the size difference in cartridges between the SVI and CV is enough to tell without even comparing (and judging by the fact that he was able to fit it in his A8 slot -- something you couldn't do with a CV cart) then that'd almost certainly make it an SVI cart. slapdash
Even if there was an MSX version (and the 3xx series SVIs were similar to MSXs), the carts wouldn't be mistaken for A8 carts. I agree with Mindfield -- almost certainly it's an SVI cart.
