CincYnoTi
i thought someone had said sears only sold sears branded items. i have more than one atari game with a sears price tag on them. this photo shows a sears price tag with the poker plus serial number (99816) on two differen casino boxes. the first one has a $27.99 price on it and the other a $19.99 price tag...wonder how long it took for that price drop. anyway, why would the sell atari-brand casino in their stores if they had the sears-brand poker plus? NovaXpress
When were these games sold? Starting in the fall of 1982 Sears switched to the Atari boxes.

sku_u
Interesting. Maybe they were selling Atari specific titles before Sears began production on their titles. What's the copyright on the box? When did sears start selling Atari carts with their own labels?
SteveW
Did Atari just re-badge their own stuff at their factories, and then ship the Sears labeled stuff to only Sears stores? I doubt that Sears would set up a label/box printing operation just for Atari carts. I'm guessing that Atari boxed and labeled the stuff for Sears at their own facility. Which would mean that occasionally, a case might get sent to the wrong retailer. Sears couldn't do anything about it, so they priced them and put them out. This kind of thing happens every once in a while with store brands at the supermarket where I work.
NovaXpress
From day 1 to August/September 1982 only Sears labels were sold there, at least that was the idea. Atari did manufacture the Telegames carts/systems themselves, the size of the order that Sears placed made it well worth their trouble. (Sears TVs were made by RCA, dishwashers by Whirlpool, etc) It is quite possible that a case of Atari labels were shipped to a Sears store then re-sold. I see that I have an Air-Sea Battle with an Atari label which was purchased at Sears. I never knew why they had it but a mistaken shipment sounds like the best theory. Due to relatives at Sears we recieved a 20% discount so all my older Atari stuff is from Sears. It took awhile before I realized it was sold anywhere else.
