Bill Lange
I am in the middle of reading a very interesting book called "Dungeon And Dreamers". A large portion of the book is dedicated to Richard Garriott, the author of the Ultima series. If you played Ultima back in the day, or if you like to read about the history of computer gaming, I highly recommend it. WRL

Here's a link for more info if anyone is interested. I also recommend reading 'Masters of Doom' - a GREAT read about two of the more interesting (IMO) programmers of our time (Carmack and Romero) and their rise to fame with id Software and beyond. Bill Lange
I also recommend reading 'Masters of Doom' - a GREAT read about two of the more interesting (IMO) programmers of our time (Carmack and Romero) and their rise to fame with id Software and beyond. Carmack and Romero are also cover in Dungeons And Dreamers. Carmack talks about how he used to disassemble the Ultima code to see how it works. When I finished 'Dungeon And Dreamers', I picked up 'Masters Of Doom'. I read about half the book last night. Another good read. WRL

WRL Glad you like it. I'm slightly past a quarter into Dungeons & Dreamers - it's interesting to note the differences in some of the 'facts' around the Doom story (Carmack & Romero) - events get described differently between the two books - I wonder which 'version' is the most correct... Both are fantastic reads nonetheless...
AtariK2
BTW, I forgot to mention: If you're curious about what Romero is up to these days after reading Masters of Doom be sure to check out his site. The forums are especially interesting. You'll find John himself posting all over the place in topics ranging from his reaction/thoughts to Masters of Doom all the way to his tips on how to program for the Apple ][! Very cool to be able to 'interact' with one of the legends...
