I Need Help With Raiders of the Lost Ark

When I put it in and turn it on it shows Indiana coming down and it plays the theme song. The problem is, I can't get it to do anything! I pushed all the game reset and the game select and all the buttons but nothing happens and it keeps playing the theme song. What should I do? Is it broken? Thanks.

STARTING THE GAME

 

Start the game by pushing the POWER switch to the ON position.

Indy will be lowered down on a pedestal in the middle of the

screen. When Indy reaches the bottom of the pedestal, press

the red button on the right controller. You'll immediately

appear in an Entrance Room containing a rock and a whip. Watch

out for snakes in this room - if they bite you, you're a

goner!

this game uses the right controller, to start press the fire button. You read the instructions here on AA. Just do a search for raiders

Yup...also the RIGHT joystick is mostly used. The left one is used to select/drop objects.

 

Anyone ever consider hacking the game to reverse this??

This game is actually fun to beat. I have got a perfect game with the initials. It is quite the adventure game for the 2600.

To get the highest score possible, you MUST do these:

 

+24 (start with)

+12 USING SHOVEL IN MESA

+10 FINDING ARK

+ 3 USE OF PARACHUTE

+ 9 USE OF ANKH

+ 5 UNCOVERING YAR

+14 LOCATING ARK IN MAPROOM

+ 3 LANDING IN MESA

+ 1 FINISHING GAME WITH 1 LIFE LEFT

+ 2 FINISHING GAME WITH 2 LIVES LEFT

 

 

...and NOT do these:

- 2 BLOWING HOLE IN ENTRANCE ROOM ""

-13 USING SECRET EXIT IN DUNGEON

- 4 SHOOTING/WHIPPING THIEVES

 

These points are all added/subracted at memory location Fddb

 

** use the headpiece along the market edge instead to gain entrance to the temple.

Yup. Additional challenges are possible (like getting the Ark with ALL the temple treasures still in your inventory**)...but these will have no effect on your final score.

 

 

** to do this trick, you need to use the ankh whith a parachute next to it in your inventory. Use it to jump to the mesa holding the ark. When you are standing on it, push the button while the hook is in the sky. You will begin falling...quickly switch to the parachute by moving the left joystick and use it to get inside! You only have to drop the ankh on the mesa field to be able to select another object...on other screens (like the mesa side), this is not true.
