Tickled_Pink
Just been going through my 7800 and 2600 collection to sort out a trading list of duplicates. I couldn't help noticing the number of label variations available so I have some questions on this: 1. How many Combat label variations are known to be in existence? I have 5! 2. Which is the rarer? A Defender II cart or a Stargate cart? 3. Does anybody bother with label variations these days?
Susuwatari
#1: You're asking? Pulled from a huge list of known variations: Combat CX2601 Text E: colored border, large (R) Text E: colored border , small (R), no TMs on game variations Text E: silver border, large (R) Text E: silver border, small (R) Text E: silver border, small (R), no TM on "Combat" Text M: Text1 with small (R), E: Text2 Text no (c), large (R) Text no (c), medium (R) Text no (c), medium (R), no Taiwan notice Text no (c), medium (R), Taiwan, soft plastic labels (no paper at all. There is often an air bubble under the plastic label where the cart's screw is. This version of combat is the most popular and can be used as a reference to help you judge what size (R) you have on your other carts. medium (R) on "Tank") Text no (c), medium (R), Taiwan, soft plastic labels, "PAL" above "made in Taiwan" Text no (c), medium (R), Taiwan, aluminum foil label Text no (c), medium (R), Taiwan, glossed labels, bright red lettering Text no (c), medium (R), glossed labels, rust colored lettering Text no (c), medium (R), Taiwan, soft plastic, small (R) on "Tank" Black (c)1978, regular paper label Black (c)1978, plastic coated label (This is a paper label with a plastic coating. This particular label was made very well-- there are no air bubbles and there is no loss of definition in the picture. looks like a normal Black label except it is extremely glossy. I can read text on my computer monitor off the reflection in this label.) That's 17 known variations. #2: Stargate is more common than Defender II. #3: some do but I don't Trying to get 700 or so NTSC carts are hard enough, getting every single label variation makes that number seems like 5,000 carts! Not only that, I'd end up in the rubber room!
IBP
If I happen to get a label variation then I keep it, but there's no way I'd deliberately collect them. All I want is one of each named game, shouldn't take me too much longer...
