Elvis8Atari
Can you play 7800 games on a 2600? or do you play 2600 games on the 7800? Also can you use the 2600 controller with the 7800?
DanBoris
No, you can't play 7800 games on a 2600, but you CAN play (most) 2600 games on a 7800. I believe you can use a 2600 controller on a 7800 but you won't have access to the second button the 7800 controllers have. Dan
Atari-Jess
Not only will it not let you play the 7800 games on the 2600, but they wont fit in it either! isn't that just amazing? another fine innovation from those kooks at the company we all have become obsessed about. Yep, Atari 2600-compatible controllers work just fine on the 7800, with the exception that any games that require a second button won't be very much fun (as you noted). ..Al
Gunstar
2600 and 7800 controllers are not only interchangable with both systems, BOTH are also 100% compatible with Atari 8/16-bit computers, Commodore 8/16-bit computers and various other platforms like Colecovision (obviously not 100% compatible since it uses many buttons). Colecovision controllers can also be use on Commodore&Atari systems, although not all the buttons will work, but at least one will-which is all you need. There are various other controllers from the likes of Sega and many other companies that used the same Atari patented plug and can all be used with minor or no modifications. Atari sued a lot of people over this patent infringment, but it makes it easy to get controllers from various companies to work on Atari systems (except 5200 and Jaguar). I know first hand that all Sega Master system&Genesis, as well as Colecovision, Intellivision, Emerson Arcadia, RCA, and even 3DO controllers can be modified to work on any Atari/Commodore compatible system that use these standard Atari plugs with a few wire tweaks.
