miker
So what's the problem??? Better go there: http://atariarea.histeria.pl/PLus/index_us.htm (for example) and freely download the latest version of atari emulator. No charge! - The authors will only be proud! ...strange world... Btw. Maybe your soundcard (if there's any) isn't compatible with DirectX in any way, or maybe drivers problem? LYNXGUY
I go to WINDOES UPDATE once every other week and I don't see any driver updates, however I have downloaded security updates but driver updates always read (0)
AtariDude
Why not download another 8 bit emulator and see if you have the same problem? Maybe there is just some weird reaction with Xformer and your system that might not appear if you use another piece of software.
LYNXGUY
The problem is now fixed and thanks to all the good people on this site who helped me. I was instant messeging my buddy last night and he said he had version 7 so I went to one of the sites listed in this thread and downloaded version 8 and it worked like a charm (and I have sound !!!). thanks again
noteit
Get rid of windows ME, its been nothing but problems anyway. Get windows 98 or 98se, or xp The 98 are not without problems, but at least they work better than ME
AtariDude
Windows ME was the worst OS Microsoft ever made. That thing is the worst thing you can ever put on your computer. Microsoft would have been better off never releasing that thing.
Goochman
Drop XFormer 2000 as well - its great at running DOS and thats about it in my testing.
LYNXGUY
First of all ...I am not having ANY trouble with WINDOWS ME Second....... I did not put ME in my computer, my computer came with it Third ......... XFORMER 2000 for WINDOWS v.8 works great Fourth ....... I was having trouble with XFORMER 2000 for WONDOWS V.7 I was able to play the games but I had no sound I defrag my drive, run scan disk and scan for viruses once a week and I regularly log on to windows update. However I did make copies of all the folders and files that I created just in case WINDOWS ME decides to (and I shouldn't say this) CRASH. I have 4 nephews and I think they all have Windows 2000 Is Windows 2000 better than Windows ME Thanks for all the help and ideas though
oesii
good points, I think everyone was just trying to offer helpful suggestions. The best Atari 800/5200 emulator is Atari800WinPlus, and it's freely available and includes sound Windows ME is by far the worst version of Windows, it may be working good for you now but a lot of us have had plenty of bad experiences with it thus the suggestions. If it starts to flake out on you, try to replace it with a better OS like Windows 2000 or XP.
oesii
and yes Windows 2000 and XP are good, reliable operating systems when properly configured. XP seems to do a good job of configuring everything right when you install it.
LYNXGUY
When I first heard of emulators ( this was a while back)I downloaded Atari800WinPlus but I did not know how to use it and I couldn't figure out how to load .atr game files. My best friend had XFORMER 2000 v.7 and it was great but as stated in an above post I had no sound, this is when I downloaded Atari800WinPlus and I couldn't figure out how to use it, then I discovered this site and talk-atari.com which was like finding gold
