cgfatari79
Two questions 1, I’m seriously thinking about buying one of these but I’m hoping that it has a monitor output like the one found of the other models of the xe family. 2, is their any joystick interface for the 8 bits that can enable you to use two or more buttons in games for example defender smart bomb button hyperspace button this would be very nice and would eliminate the need of the keyboard in most games. If so please point me in the right direction I’d snap one of these up without hesitation.
kheffington
If you are talking about the XEGS, it does not have a monitor port.
Bryan
It has A/V outputs which is fine for most TV's and monitors. It's missing the Chroma/Luma option. -Bry
andy_bernstein
Bry, Is it possible to add chroma / luma to the XEGS like on the 1200XL ? Thanks, AB. P.S.: I'll order Castle Crisis asap.
cgfatari79
Chroma luma What? Sorry yeh Lost me.
Bryan
Yeah, I'm sure you could tap into it and add them. I haven't seen the schematic to see how many components it would take, though. cgfatari79: Basically, there have been 2 kinds of video outputs for TV-based computers. Composite (your standard Video-Out found on most game systems and VCR's), and Chroma/Luma (aka S-Video). With Chroma/Luma outputs, the monochrome brightness signal is not mixed with the color signal, and it generally produces a sharper picture with better color. -Bry
cgfatari79
ah got yeah but how do you modify the display output to s/video is it just a matter of using a s/video adapter/converter.
Bryan
Most Atari 8-bits have a round 5-pin DIN connector for video. The XEGS only has a video RCA jack. That's why the signals aren't there, and you'd have to do some soldering to add them. Chroma/Luma is only useful if your TV or monitor has an input for them, though. -Bry
cgfatari79
Ok i guess i will have to live with a poorer video display then but what about the joystick adapter does it exist or how can it be done? any ideas
Bryan
The Video output from the XEGS is pretty good anyway. Joystick adapter? It takes regular 9-pin 2600-style sticks. -Bry
andy_bernstein
@cgf Try this link with several video upgrades. Having been a PAL user for years, you might want to make sure they're compatible with the equipment you get: http://www.geocities.com/atarimods/atari.html AB. andy_bernstein
Cgf, It's a video upgrade for a PAL 600XL, the PAL XEGS upgrade shouldn't be too difficult to deduct: http://www.little-blue-desktop.com/modules...=showpage&pid=2 AB.
