thx1138
I play Missile Command a bit on my 800xl, once or twice an evening usually. (I use a Cheethah BUG joystick for this game), and I have a few questions. * Does the bonus multiplier stop at 6? As I've never got past 6/ * Is it my set-up at fault, or does the screen go a bit funny when it gets to the cyan background (on a side note, it goes completely haywire on My 2600's) * When this was in the arcade did it have a ball controller? * Can I get such a controller for the Atari 800xl? thanks
Tempest
* Does the bonus multiplier stop at 6? As I've never got past 6/ I swear I've seen 8x before. I believe it does. * Is it my set-up at fault, or does the screen go a bit funny when it gets to the cyan background (on a side note, it goes completely haywire on My 2600's) Define "a bit funny" * When this was in the arcade did it have a ball controller? Yes. * Can I get such a controller for the Atari 800xl? Yes there is a track-ball for the 800xl. Tempest
Goochman
6x is the highest Though there is a trackball controller IM not sure if MC has 'trackball' support - If you get a trackball controller try hitting CTRL+J and see if it plays, otherwise you have a trackball emulating joystick movements which doesnt work as well. kevin242
Here is an answer to a question you didn't ask, but I gather from your post you have not played the arcade Missle Command. In the arcade there is not only a trackball, but also 3 fire buttons and 3 missle bases, so it makes a big difference. The 8-bit is about as close as you can get without emulating the arcade version. kvn
thx1138
Thanks, I could not remember if the original had different fire buttons. I have quite a few versions of Missile command. It's pretty good on the gameboy, it's frankly awful of the Megadrive. Some versions have differrent bases to fire from. The glitch I mentioned, is that on a couple of screens, the incoming missles become disjointed visually on the scren, and the upper part of screen flickers slightly
kevin242
that glitch doesn't happen with Atari800Win or my real 800. kvn
+CharlieChaplin
Well, to play MC on the Atari with a trackball, press Control+T and plug-in your trackball into port 1. Newer XL/XE versions can also be played with a ST mouse using the same keypress... -Andreas.
