kevin242
I've recently been digging through some old cables and connectors and found a couple of those black RF cables that I believe came with the XL series computers. WHat excactly does that little box do? Is it some type of filter? kvn
Nukey Shay
The TV/Computer switchbox? It's pretty self-explainatory
Goochman
What I think he's asking about is the cable itself seems to have a black box midway through the cable. Not the TV selector box the cable plugs into.

Yes, it is ATTACHED to the cable and it is a little black plastic box. kvn

bjk7382
It is called ferrite. They have similar clamps for cords on the colecovision, they are just wrapped around the wire in a box on the 8bit. Iit is just there to reduce interference. Here is a quote from this website Ferrite rings are very simply but also a very effective method of reducing various types of interference. Often fitted in power leads, TV coax leads, speaker leads, telephone leads etc.
ApolloBoy
My 800XL's power supply seems to have the same ferrite coil box near the DIN plug. However, my XL's dead power supply doesn't have it. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
