digitalwndr
The RCA plug end came off of an Atari I just purchased. What's the best way to reattach it? Does the cable braid need to touch the RCA plug at all?
cwilkson
Yes. The cable braid is the ground lead. It should connect to the outside conductor of the RCA. The wire in the center of the cable is the signal lead. It should connect to the post of the RCA. -Chris
+SpiceWare
You could also replace it with a new cable. Open up the Atari and you'll find that the other end is an RCA plug as well
digitalwndr
Spice, So If I buy this, I can open the Atari and just plug it in?! Can it be true? [/url]
Whisper
True. You may have to file down the male tip that goes in the female connector on the board as the Atari plug is shorter than a standard RCA plug. That cable will do though!
Whisper
Or as an other option, cut off the old plug and buy a "do it yourself" male RCA plug and use that. Personally I'd get a prefabricated cable though (shielded if possible, I have found standard RCA cables for sound that have the negative wire as a shield around the positive wire) because it's less prone to cause unwanted interference and will guarantee the best signal carriage. digitalwndr
I figured it would be soldered to the board but now that I know otherwise, to Radio Shack I shall go! Woohoo!
