Laser toes in Berzerk?

Okay, this is a weird one. I was playing Berzerk on my Cuttle Cart 2 (thanks Chad!) and I seem to remember witnessing something really weird as a kid. Maybe this happened once, a couple times, or maybe never at all. Hopefully you can help me remember.

 

The robots in 2600 Berzerk seem to shoot out of wherever is the closest to the player. The blasts can originate out out of their chest or hip, etc. I seem to recall getting shot out of the robots toe more than once. Am I just remembering things? Or did the Atari Robotics Division equip their cybernetic kills will laser-offensive toes?

 

Thanks for any confirmation, and also avoiding the implication that I was stoned when I was 10 years old.
