SS
Nothing to write home about but I just noticed this in my duplicate pile. It has a much larger font than I'm used to seeing. A quick scan of my other Atari carts doesn't show a similar font used on any of the other games that I own either. Anyone else have one like this? FireTiger
I don't...copyright date? main label type? anything else?
SS
Copyright 1983. Front label is silver (not a later release gray one) and it has a cartridge lock. In all aspects (other than the end label) it looks to be exactly the same as the other "normal" release Galaxian that I own.
Susuwatari
It does look like the unusual Centipede end label. In fact it almost look like the same font.
Mindfield
Heh, I just mentioned this in another thread -- I have the same funky end label and was going to ask about it as well. Quite different than any other Atari end label in my collection, so I kept it just because of that.
video game addict
Just for record the Centipede looks like this,
bcprs1
Funny you should bring up this topic because I just bought a Galaxian with the same end label at a yard sale the other day.
NovaXpress
It was probably just a printing error at a new plant. Centipede and Galaxian were released only a month or two apart. Rather than wasting the lables, they sent out a few batches with bloated print. How rare are these?
video game addict
I've not seen very many, actually I think I've only spied the Centipede before myself. Although the Galaxian looks familar.. I think even if they are a printing error, it's still a valid entry to the minor list of 2600 label variations.
highinfidelity
Gee, there's a man here who have a website about font variations... I'm squeezing my mind but I just can't recall the address! I'm sure it covers this situation, as well as many others.
video game addict
I found one too. This one is copyright 1985 scanned side by side with one of my 83 end labels.
video game addict
Also I should add, It would appear they are different style fonts not just bloated paint, notice how the G's differ. The smaller text G, comes to a corner in bottom, it's squared off. The larger font G is a perfect circle in that area, it's like an O with a cut in it. mrgameandwatch
That font is new to me. It isn't even in the AtariAge font area. And those are good recreations Perhaps it was a goof-up on the label design momentarily?
Mindfield
Probably a font mixup somewhere beween the proofs and the line shots. Or maybe the printer doing the labels didn't have a copy of the typefaces that were being used at the time and Atari needed the labels now, so they went with what they had until they were provided with proper fonts. video game addict
Fonts are Geometr706 Medium BT Eras Demi ITC But your sizes are off, the skinny one is slightly smaller on the actual carts, That's cool though, those are exactly what I scanned above! Definitely different fonts.
Heihachi_73
Yeah, Photo-Paint 7 has a habit of resizing the fonts (being a 1997 program it was one of the first to have an anti-alias font option in windows 95) If the AA was turned off (or if I used paint) it might have looked more normal Anyone need a font feel free to ask (i have 986 fonts, 900 came with my Photo-Paint cd, a lot of clones and bad p/s to ttf rips made by other manufacturers though)

I'm sure it covers this situation, as well as many others. That person is me! I own that Galaxian version too. I put it away in a closet that I can't get to. It is on the variation list as version b. b) Silver2 ©1983, C1, E: plastic, E: huge font Check out the link if you want to see all the variations. Though I'll be updating it after I get married, probably sometime in October. http://gpdcomics.tripod.com/id74.html Phil
Mindfield
I just realized where that funky font came from. It's the same font used on the Atarisoft version of Galaxian for Colecovision!
Mindfield
...this, then, would obviously extend to the aforementioned Centipede label, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Defender out there like that, too.
