dr. kwack
Bummer- I tried to boot up my copy of Beach Head the other day only to realize it no longer works. It was fine a few weeks ago... I try to store my disks corrcetly and can't figure out what happened. Just how vulnerable are all of my old disk titles? I'm gonna say about 90% of them were purchased new within the last year from B&C and other places. Should I do backups?
AtariLeaf
Should I do backups? Absolutely. The first thing you do when you buy a disk is back it up, store the original, and use only the backup. In fact, you should make a couple of copies of backups.
dr. kwack
OK, having grown up with a C64 I know that some old titles were protected. I have the InstaDOS cartridge- I'm assuming that should make backups without harming the original disk? And will it work on all titles? classics
You will need a upgraded 1050 to copy any commercial game disks, they are almost all copy protected. Look for a Super Archiver or Happy 1050 upgrade. Steve
dr. kwack
Ah! OK- I've heard of the Happy 1050 Upgrade. Is it tough to do? I mean, I really don't want to mess up my disk drive.
classics
You just remove two socketed rom chips and plug a enhancement PCB into one of the now empty sockets. Very easy, even easier than less capable upgrades like the US Doubler. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5118286772 On that auction page there is a link to the PDF version of the installation manual which shows the photos of it installed.
