Great Hierophant
In addition to playing 2600 games on genuine 2600s (Six/four switchers, Jrs., Sears), there are other options. First, you could play them on a 7800, but we all know of the compatibility problems with that. Second, you could play them on other systems. The 5200 has the VCS Cartridge Adapter, the Colecovision has Expansion Module #1. Finally, you can use a pirate console. How compatible are these? Can they work with a Supercharger, Robot Tank, Space Shuttle, Decathlon, Kool-Aid Man, Time Pilot and Dark Chambers?
kevin242
What are the compatibility problems with the 7800? kevin
Fellow Atari Man
The original 7800 model (with the adapter for a laserdisc player on the side) didn't allow the Supercharger and a few games to work...I forget which ones, since there have been claims that Pitfall 2 doesn't work on there, but mine always worked fine. But there's a simple modification where you remove a part and the Supercharger, Robot Tank (oh yeah, that was one of the games...I remember now ), and a few other games will work after that. kevin242
so it was basically a physical problem then?
Godzilla
i use an adam with the 2600 module (gives me my 'poor mans video out' for 2600 games.) is there any way to get everything working with the coleco module? I occasionally run into a cart that doesnt work with it... I also have a game brain connected to it. (yes i disconnect the brain when needed,)

Actually, ones with the expansion port will play all the games. Few non-expansion port 7800s don't have those compatibility problems, so I've been told. I haven't tried Robot Tank or any other "incompatible" games on my 7800, though.
Fellow Atari Man
so it was basically a physical problem then? Yep...you had to physically go in there and snip out a part. You can see how to do it here: http://www.schells.com/7800mod.shtml

jsoper
No one has mentioned the system changer to play 2600 games on an intv2. And here's a link for 7800 compatiblity stuff (probably the 10th time posted to AA) http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/7800_compat.html
RangerG
Will the 5200 VCS adaptor work with the 5200 if the 5200 has been modified for audio and video out? Will the Colecovision 2600 adaptor work on the Colecovision if the Colecovision has been modified for audio and video out? I believe the answer is no?. Can this be fixed or modded in any way? Thanks, RG
Godzilla
well, i can tell you that the native video out from the adam works with the expansion module for 2600 carts...
Chadivision
I have problems with Imagic carts on my 7800. I can barely get them to fit in the slot.

fsuinnc
Funky Fish and Pleiades do not work on the 7800. At least not on any of mine. What is the mod for the 7800?
Lost Monkey
My 7800 plays everything except Robot Tank.. I used the Supercharger with it for many years, before even hearing there was "supposed" to be a problem. It is an expansion-less unit. Mindfield
FWIW My Supercharger won't work in my 7800. I also have a hell of a time trying to fit some Imagic carts in the slot.

israelg
Can u count a PC with emulation+TV out+Real Atari Joystuck as alternative to the 2600 ? yes, you can't put cartridges inside but u can't also put them in a supercharger or one of this kind of devices ... What do u think ?
Godzilla
No, thats not an alternative, its an emulator. I believe they also made a module for one of the old spectravideo line of computers and it could play 2600 games... wasn't there also something for the vic? too long ago, memory strained...
