sku_u
I've had this for a while now. It was purchased off Ebay. I was wondering if anyone knows what it's original purpose was? The poster measures 22 length by 17 width and says made in the USA on the bottom left. It was definitely not done on a home printer. There's no traces on this that a printer would have left behind. The seller was also a reputable person. Here's a pic, and info would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the process of deciding whether or not I'd like to have the poster professionallly framed, or just thrown in a cheap frame I buy from Kmart:
Mindfield
Funny, that's the Atari label artwork, but no copyright on it, no indication that it even has anything to do with the home version of the video game, so that sort of rules out store signage or promo. A master proof, maybe? Most proofs for items sold in more than one country omit any copyright information or details so that the appropriate information can be added in the intended language (if appliccable). That's an interesting theory. I hadn't thought of that. The only thing I'm fairly certain of is that this isn't someone paying homage to a great game by printing out a wide format print. foxglove9
I know someone on ebay was selling custom prints of that poster for a while now, so that could be what it is. I really love that poster though, always wanted to get my hands on one.
NovaXpress
Since no one has ever seen these offered by a real company, it's a bootleg. Are they getting money for them? Because there's about fifty guys on this board who could whip up a better poster.
Radio F Software
...there's about fifty guys on this board who could whip up a better poster. I could do a better job in MS Paint. The 2 sets of the red ghosts and pac man in the upper left and lower right were simply reversed images.
Synthead
Haha, yeah ... never noticed that one. Well ........ I think it's a cool poster ...
rsiddall
Some carny (from every State Fair you went to as a kid) has finally decided to dump all of his posters on eBay. You remember the 'game of skill' where you paid a dollar to throw a dart at a poster (usually with half-naked girls or Spuds MacKenzie or maybe both together) - instead of just handing him a buck and telling him which picture you wanted... Just a theory... Neat poster btw...now all you need is the 'fairground game of skill' mirror* that goes with it. *sometimes you won cheesy mirrors (instead of posters)
7800Lover
I remember seeing that art before. I actually thought it was pretty good art for Pacman. Just be glad you didn't get the version for the Atari 800 computer which I have down below as a file attachment. Who'd have thought some bonehead illustrator would depict Pacman as a buck-toothed, frisbee-eating, marathon runner living inside a castle? keitaro
this cover really sucks !! hahaha, but the cover for reedition of pacman for atari 8bit are bit better (a reedition of 1987, grey box)
foxglove9
Haha, I completely forgot about that cover for the Atari 800! I remember as a kid spending much time trying to figure out why the art looks like that. I think the Atari 5200 art was different again. Why did they change the pacman cover art so much when the original was so recognizable?
AtariDude
It was probably a decision made by management and we all know how good Atari's management team was, don't we?
geosteve
this is the 8-bit version box I remember seeing, that one above must be a rare version. http://www.atariage.com/box_page.html?Soft...areLabelID=2677
Albert
Of all the Pac-Man artwork to use for a poster, the 2600 Pac-Man art has to be the worst and least inspired (guess it's kind of fitting for the game, though). However, I must say, that Atari 800 box artwork is pretty bizarre. ..Al
Kuddy
Heh... you should see the artwork CCE used on their cartridge. Freaky. I think this was my avatar once too.

Wow, that is a touch, uhh, disturbing. But at least it's a somewhat original interpretation of the game and less bland than what Atari decided to use for the 2600 box. ..Al
Flack
Who knew the ghosts were actually mad, green jelly-beans, and Pac-Man was, under that familiar yellow skin, blue?
