PAL system & power requirements requested

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting a PAL system so I could extend my collecting/playing grasp and I was wondering a few things.

1) Modern ntsc TV's can play a pal game thruough a pal console - correct?

2) Are Australian pal carts/systems the same as UK

3) Will I need an electrical transformer due to different voltage requirements?

And are there any "unseen" issues I may have to deal with?

Thanks for any advice.

Dunno - if I wanna play a ntsc game on ntsc-console' date=' I'll need a multinorm tv which can show 50Hz and 60Hz.

I'd say yes. I've no problems with my HES cartridges on my consoles.

As I know there are 110V in USA, Canada and Japan (and maybe other countries), PAL-countries using 220V so you'll need a transformer.

Nope. In the UK you'll find that most new TV's are 60hz compatible - I think the number of TV's in North America that are 50Hz (i.e. PAL) compatible are very, very few. I finally got hold of an AC adaptor last week (needed it for the Gemini I bought a while back), plugged in my PAL Jr and hooked it up to the TV - just to see what happened. I found that the PAL games I tested rolled, so at the very least you'll probably need a TV with a vertical hold feature - but bear in mind the colours will probably be off as well (or black & white). I believe that some TV's have modes that are compatible with PAL-N and PAL-M (South American PAL standard, I think) but I don't know if that'll mean they'll work with a UK PAL console.

I think so. PAL-I is the standard, I think.

Nope - I picked up a 500ma AC adaptor from Sears for CAD$14.99 and it works fine with my PAL Jr - just make sure it comes with a connector that fits in the Atari. You'll need DC output at 9v, 500ma, Positive polarity.

And are there any "unseen" issues I may have to deal with?

Thanks for any advice.
