+Random Terrain
I couldn't wait anymore. I have to tell you this because I am so freakin' happy! I was given a stack of old magazines and I found an Atari ad that I never held in my hands before. It could be on the Internet already, but I don't remember seeing it. I'm cleaning it up a bit and it should be ready for the public Monday night or Tuesday afternoon if all goes well. Sorry to post early, but as I said, I couldn't wait any longer. I had to tell someone. It's so cool to find an ad I don't remember seeing before. I'm sure at least some people around here have seen it or have it, so don't get your hopes up, but for those who will be as happy to see it as I am, it won't be long. I'll be back as soon as possible to post the link. Please don't ask any questions. I want it to be a surprise. I won't be back until I am done anyway, so it won't do any good to ask questions. adams_ale
What year is it from? What magazine did you find the ad in? Is it in color or b/w? Is it big or small? Is it a game ad? Is it a hardware ad? Oh.....no questions, eh. Seriously that is really cool. Looking forward to it.

+Random Terrain
Finally done. You might notice that the Atari logo is a little crooked. It was printed that way. I didn't fix it in case all of the ads looked like that. As I said, this ad might be out there on the Internet somewhere, but at least I have my own copy now: http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-me...video-game.html Edited December 17, 2007 by Random Terrain

elviticus
Very cool! Thanks for posting that. Probably everyone know this but me, but why is it that in all the old ads, catalogs etc. real screenshots are never used?
gulag picture radio
It's hard to take a picture of a television set - even today. You'll often catch it inbetween frames and get half a frame - or at best, an unattractive scanline. Also, when they put lights on a TV set to make it look attractive they use a lot of different lights - all of which want to glare off of the glass tube. Ergo it's just easier to pplug in some art instead of the TV's actual display. They still do this in ads today, mostly because editorially they want to be able to put whatever image they want on the screen after the TV set have been shot. It also lets them use the same TV photo a number of times - all they have to do is change the displayed picture. Those are just guesses though. kencrisis
"You'll never outgrow the Atari Video Game System" I love that line from that ad. So accurate, so true for most everyone here. Some people may think I'm a dinosaur too stuck in my old school ways, but at 36 years old, the 2600 is STILL the only video game console I've ever owned! adams_ale
Nothing wrong with that! It's a great system. I have and play newer systems, but the Atari is my favorite. By the way what magazine did that Atari ad come from?
+Random Terrain
By the way what magazine did that Atari ad come from? Playboy (December 1980). I was given a stack almost as tall as I am. I need to go through them all, but it won't be any time soon.
