atari_aaron
Which 2600 game has the best looking splash screen? Which 2600 game has the most complex splash screen? What does everyone think? Aaron
kencrisis
I've always loved the Centipede screen with it's undulating title. It always looked so "arcade" to me.
Csonicgo
journey escape had a mini movie for a splash screen.

geosteve
the 'Super Baseball' title screen is impressive work for a sports game and 'Off The Wall' has a coloful arcade-like screen (although it's nothing like the Atari Games arcade game with the same name)
Godzilla
i like the bouncy cars and tunes of super sprint but thats just the one ive played most recently... there are many others... there was a recent thread about this also (heman, sword quest etc. were mentioned.) Albert
I've always loved the Centipede screen with it's undulating title. It always looked so "arcade" to me. I agree, the Centipede screen is a classic. I remember being surprised when I first played the game and powered it up. "Wow, those are some pretty nice graphics for the 2600". The graphics are nice, the animation is a nice touch, and it's relevant to the game. Very well done. And it was done earlier than some of the more advanced games that would come out later, such as Super Sprint. I remember thinking the E.T. splash screen was fairly nice (a good job of digitizing E.T. considering the 2600's capabilities), and it even had the theme song for the movie. ..Al
Stingray
I'll throw my vote in for E.T. too. I was amazed at how great the picture of E.T. looked the first time I powered that one up. -S
Robert M
The splash screen for Sword Quest Earthworld impressed me at the time it came out. Too bad the game sucked sooooo bad.
atari_aaron
It seems like the games with the best splash screens often sucked.
foxglove9
I liked centipede as well. And I thought it was a good 2600 arcade port.
keilbaca
Definitely Earthworld to be the best splash screen.

Gregory DG
I rather like California Games title screen myself. 256 colors onscreen at once! Can the NES do that?!
ZylonBane
Solaris. Yeah, the "splash screen" is just a still of the planet surface screen. But ALL of Solaris is awesome-looking, so there!
+Nathan Strum
I have to give a vote for Joust. I thought they did a great job on the logo.
Godzilla
Solaris. Yeah, the "splash screen" is just a still of the planet surface screen. But ALL of Solaris is awesome-looking, so there! Certianly, I agree about Solaris, one of my all-time favorite video games, looking awesome. However, it does not have a "splash screen." I figured a violent stickler like you would realize the incorrect symantics involved in your error.
Albert
I have to give a vote for Joust. I thought they did a great job on the logo. Yes, Joust does look pretty good. I just fired it up again to take a look at it. ..Al
Cobra Commander
I also like centipede, I play this one regurarly. Damn the blisters!
adams_ale
Adventures of Tron has a nice multi-colored splash screen, but it doesn't have any music. A girl friend of mine really liked the splash screen on Tooth Protectors. She thought it was cute so that entry is disqualified.
Shaggy the Atarian
I think the most complex screen would go to E.T. Best looking would be Centipede.
Albert
Maybe we should post the more interesting splash screens to this thread? Would be cool to make animated gifs out of the ones that have animation (such as Centipede and Joust). ..Al
Atari Rescue Group
Can someone copy a bunch of those splashes and make a cartridge out of it? I'd like to get one of those things to use in an Atari display to put into libraries.
atari_aaron
That would be a cool museum display especially if you were to connect the AtariVox to such a cart. You could have a short audio description of each game as well.
