Laner
OK, got a 7800 off ebay, works fine with all the 7800 cartridges that came with it, and most of the Atari-published 2600 titles. But third party titles are a completely different story - most will not start up properly, unless I wedge something between the back of the cartridge slot and the cartridge itself. Is this something that is fixable, or would I be better off just getting another 7800?
Laner
Oh, I've already tried cleaning the cartridge slot with rubbing alchohol - it helped somewhat, but the problem is still there.
Shaggy the Atarian
Hmm, I guess it could be the contacts in the slot themselves. I'm not sure if there are replacement ones available or not. Did you try cleaning the cartridges as well?
+Mitch
That's a pretty common problem for most (75%) 7800s, unfortunately. I've heard of various ways of dealing with it, from grinding out a bit of the the plastic collar to using a cart extender. Mitch
ubersaurus
I've had that problem with Imagic and Activision games, mostly. I just play around with how I put em in to get em to work-I find putting em in all the way doesn't always work.
FireTiger
Save yourself some effort pick up a cheep 2600 and use it for the 3rd party 2600 games, my 7800 plays anything I can physically wedge into the slot...but it is less effort pulling out the 2600, hooking it up and playing whatever 2600 games I want. Laner
Well, I actually have three 2600s lying around (plus a 2600 adapter for the 5200) - I'd just like to get the 7800 working 100%
FireTiger
I have a 7800 console that people say has a bad chip somewhere its a first run board, complete with expansion slot...it runs 2600 games just fine search for "Problem 7800" with me as author, the case is cracked, the internal ring around the cart slot is split (fits Activision better this way) the power button is flakey even with the top off, (whistles) has been tinkered with inside, (to no effect) to try to fix the stange display problem...(actually if you are interested in it I'll have to test it more throughly heres some trouble games and a couple from each 3rd party I have) Tested working: Dark Chambers KoolAid Man HeMan Masters of the Universe Frogger II Threedeep H.E.R.O. Beamrider Gorf TunnelRunner SpaceChase Shark Attack Gopher Commando Raid California Games Winter Games Summer Games Death Trap Gangster Alley Planet Patrol Donkey Kong Mouse Trap Megaforce Porky's Coconuts Cosmic Creeps All other 7800 games I have except Food Fight seem to work but are unplayable. Tested Not Working: Robo Tank -rolls, very rapidly... Decathlon, The Activision -won't boot Pitfall II -won't boot (any game) Tigervision -won't fit without mod of cart. 7800 Food Fight, boots to atari rom, then get yellow stripes/ nothing
FireTiger
ment to preview, not submit.... In topic review I'd have noticed that (above) that isn't useful to you at all... (however I'd Let ya buy the other for parts (I give up on it)...) My real good 7800 that plays all games (except unmodified Tigervision carts) has the same problem (espceially M-network style carts), I usually use finness and one of those slap braclets or a peice of cardboard...I can get them to play so I don't sweat it. Cousin Vinnie
Every 7800 user has his own little quirks with playing 2600 games. Personally, I have never had a problem with mine, and I own Robot Tank, Pitfall II, and Kool Aid Man. Lucky me. Cousin Vinnie
