DEBRO
What does the middle character under the score represent? The instructions state the number represents the number of decoys available. When you bring up the game and wait a bit the character becomes a block. BTW, did you know if you score >= 200,000 in a game this middle character will be the programmer's initials? inextremis staple
It's been a while since I played but if I remember correctly, you can drop a decoy which attracts the other dots that are flying around trying to hit you or whatever. You can use it as a means to knock them into the wall. I guess the number just tells you how many decoys you have left. Hope that helps. is
keilbaca
We played it here on the HSC http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53019 Very good game!
DEBRO
We played it here on the HSC http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53019 Very good game! Interesting that none of the shots of scores >= 200,000 don't show the programmer's initials
Godzilla
yea the decoys are key to getting good scores, because you can get the particles trapped in the corners and rack up the points that way
Thomas Jentzsch
BTW, did you know if you score >= 200,000 in a game this middle character will be the programmer's initials? How do you know? Did you disassemble the game?
DEBRO
How do you know? Did you disassemble the game? Partially... I noticed the initials in the ROM and investigated how to activate them.
moycon
Maybe the initials only show up for a short time?
DEBRO
Maybe the initials only show up for a short time? I thought about that and doing a quick scan shows the value isn't changed until the score is cleared
moycon
Hmmmm Not sure, Are there two versions of the game maybe? Seems odd the pictures of the screen after a game dont show the initials. Maybe it was something the programmer tried to put it the game but never got it working?
DEBRO
Hmmmm Not sure, Are there two versions of the game maybe? Could there be...I guess it's possible. I've only seen 2 dumps for Reactor which are NTSC and PAL. Both dumps I have have the initial easter egg.
Thomas Jentzsch
I thought about that and doing a quick scan shows the value isn't changed until the score is cleared Confirmed. And the score rolls after 999,999. Hm...
+Nathan Strum
Interesting that none of the shots of scores >= 200,000 don't show the programmer's initials Maybe it only applies to Game 1. The HSC played Game 7. (Similar to the Missile Command egg only showing up on Game 13.)
Thomas Jentzsch
Maybe it only applies to Game 1. The HSC played Game 7. (Similar to the Missile Command egg only showing up on Game 13.) Nope, the EE code makes no difference between game variations.
moycon
So there's at leats one alternate version of this game floating around. Who else has scored over 200k on Reactor, and did they notice the initials? Me personally I doubt I could get that high of a score so I cant check. Maybe I'll try tho. Its a fun game! Thomas Jentzsch
So there's at leats one alternate version of this game floating around. Maybe. But why does Todd always seem to have those alternate versions?
moycon
Nope, I tried, I couldn't get that high of a score. Still a fun game. DEBRO in the picture you posted of the initials the score is 999,999 How did you do this? It seems like it would be very hard to accomplish if the score rolls at 999,999. DEBRO
DEBRO in the picture you posted of the initials the score is 999,999How did you do this? I hacked the code I don't think I can get that high of a score either.
