ttony_at
This forum probably has every conceivable topic on Atari. But I don't know if this has been discussed yet. It's about the size of the game cartridges made for Atari 2600. The front of the cartridge, the place where the cartridge enters the VCS, must be a certain size; no bigger or smaller. But the length can vary. The length of the Space Jockey cartridge by Vidtec is 10cm. (While a regular Atari game cartridge, such as Pacman, is about 9.8cm in length). Space Cavern by Apollo is 9.5cm. One cartridge I have, Air Raiders, is normal in length but has the wight narrow down to 6.6cm after the front where it enters the console. http://www.atariage.com/cart_page.html?Sof...wareLabelID=742 And some such as Star wars, has the end label area indented. What are some the smallest or largest shape cartridges that exits?
adams_ale
M-Network probably has the smallest carts: Air Raiders, Kool Aid Man, Burgertime, et cetera. Commavid the largest carts= Cosmic Swarm, Stronghold, Mines of Minos, et cetera. Don't have a ruler to measure the Commavid carts.
sku_u
The smallest carts I know of are some of the Taiwan carts that are about 1/2 the length of a standard cart. The longest single ender carts I know of are some of the Commavid carts with the longest overall carts being the Xonox Double Enders. Mindfield
In order from biggest to smallest: CommaVid, Konami, M-Network/Imagic (almost the same height as Konami carts), standard carts (Atari, Activision, etc.) and then the mini-carts (about 1/8th to 1/3rd shorter than standard), pretty well all of which are either Japanese/Taiwanese or Brazilian pirates. crunchysuperman
I'd say the Tron T-handle cases are probably the smallest. Regardless of size, I think the M-network, Xonox & Sega grip cases are the most annoying cartridge designs, from a storage point of view anyway. sku_u
I'd say the Tron T-handle cases are probably the smallest. There are Taiwan carts that are the same size as the body of a Tron cart but don't have the T handle which makes them even smaller.
crunchysuperman
I didn't know that. All the Taiwan carts I have are indeed noticably smaller, but not that small.
