Tempest
Yep. The Japanese Atari 2600 Air-Sea Battle used that label. Tempest
Tempest
Although yours looks like its from the US. Very odd. Some kind of wacky late late late release? Tempest
SS
It looks familiar.
froggger2
Tempest posted reference to this picture on an Atari 2800 Japanese box http://atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t...japanese+battle There was appaerently some concern that the American version appeared to be shooting down Japanese planes. Japanese 2800 boxes that were actually issued contained Japanese instruction books but regular English language cartridges. I bought a boxed Atari 2800 Defender from someone in Mexico that came that way. Atari likely printed special English language labels for their Japanese 2800 Air-Sea Battle cartridges so that the cartridges also did not appear to show Japanese planes being shot down. A.J. Franzman
Sorry my cam is a bit crappy. It doesn't look like the camera is too bad, looks more like it moved while taking the shot. You can get a cheap tabletop mini tripod from places like Best Buy or Staples for under $10. It's well worth it for macro work like this. Interesting cart. san-d-2000
how did you get that card?
Cootster
Wouldn't the Japanese cart say 2800 on it as the box does? hugged's cart says 2600. Of course, given the horrid Atari quality control, that may mean nothing and it is a Japanese version. It'd be NTSC anyway, no way to tell . . . froggger2
The boxed Atari 2800 Defender I purchased on eBay from Mexico had a Japanese Language Atari 2800 box and instructions but had a normal English language Defender Atari 2600 cartridge. Albert
Do other Japanese releases have artwork of this nature, or is this version of Air-Sea Battle some weird aberration? ..Al
Tempest
Do other Japanese releases have artwork of this nature, or is this version of Air-Sea Battle some weird aberration? No, AFAIK Air Sea Battle is the only odd one out of the set. I have about 12 2800 boxes and they all have US artwork. Tempest
moycon
Wasn't there speculation that they did it because the original art portrayed a too realistic vision of war and they wanted to cartoony (is that a word?) it up? They even have the bullet bouncing off the plane.
video game addict
Does silver 2600 box exist? Maybe the original artwork with silver label even? Interesting links: New Zealand silvers And from the International catalogs of Atari: Pic below comes from Atarimania
