vdub_bobby
I just got a copy of Solaris and the guy who sent it to me thought it was NTSC and the label has the B&W picture (according to AA's db the PAL version has a color pic) but it rolls like crazy on my Atari Jr; none of the other games I have roll like that. Is it PAL or is there some incompatibility with the Jr? Or my TV?
+-^CrossBow^-
Probably a PAL version. It isn't the first time that this game has been found with all the NTSC markings, but in fact turn out to be PAL. Ask StanJR about that...

Big Player
The problem might be your TV. I don't think either of you has a PAL copy of Solaris. On the VCS the games are responsible for synchronizing with the TV themselves. Some games try to use the time it takes to do that properly for other things as well, and Solaris is one of them. Not all TVs are able to recognize the resulting sync signal. But if your TV has a Vhold knob you should be able to adjust the rolling without messing it up for the other NTSC games or the TV broadcast. Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg Here is the thread I pulled the quote from. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8397 Edited April 20, 2005 by Big Player

Both are ntsc, one rolls, and one doesn't on the same tv. I am willing to bet they just mixed up and put pal chips in ntsc carts.

In fact, I believe Stan Jr had an ntsc Solaris dumped and it turned out to have the pal ROM inside. I just wanted to have vdub_bobby check every possibililty first. +-^CrossBow^-
Yeap...I was the one that dumped Stan's cart and had Eckhard verify it before I told Stan. But I knew it already as the colors were all off from my NTSC copy of the game. However, it didn't roll on my TV it just was moved down a little farther than usual some some of the stuff was cut off, but I was able to play it just fine. As I recall, I liked some of the color differences better but I can't remember where or what colors they really were now. Still, Stan's cart was a perfect example of how some of the PAL carts ended up as being NTSC labeled and on US Shelves... Makes you wonder how many were returned, or simply thrown out back in the day from this mix up?
vdub_bobby
Thanks for all the info, folks. I'll try it with another TV to make sure.
