Vic George
I tried M.E.S.S. before with the front-end called sMESS and it worked fine. Now I can't even get sMESS to recognize that there are any ROMs, and two other front-end programs that I tried with M.E.S.S. won't operate. Can someone please help? liquid_sky
Can you get a little more info? Its a little hard to work with what I have now.. maybe you dont have the properrly named folders inside your software folder?
Alex
I'm having a problem with the latest version (from August 20th I think). It can't recognize the 7800.rom file for some reason. Never had the problem before, though I've heard other people are having problems with this latest version.
liquid_sky
I have the newest version and I can run it just fine.. This might help, here is how I have mine layed out.. C:mess32bbiosa78007800.zip (4k) C:mess32bsoftwarea7800[ROMs here, unzipped; I have problems getting it to run zipped roms] I am running b15 on a WinME box [ 08-25-2001: Message edited by: liquid_sky ]
liquid_sky
I meant Zipfile.. dunno why i said .bin.. I corrected it. I didn't need subfolders until this version of M.E.S.S. either, I wonder why we need them now to be able to run it?
Alex
Interesting, I just got it to work. I had to set it up like this: C:mess32bbiosa78007800.zip The last version I had (which may not have been the directly previous release) ran fine with the zip file in the 'bios' folder as opposed to a 7800 sub-folder. Did you mean .zip file as well, or are you actually running it with a 7800.bin file?
Wntermute
actually, the 7800 should be set up like this: C:MESS32Biosa7800.zip
liquid_sky
It wont work like that anymore.. now you need a subfolder for the atari 7800 directory to get mess to locate and initilatize the bios
Wntermute
The way it's supposed to work (and if it doesn't work like this, the MESS team needs to know ASAP) is like this: separate files - C:MESSBios(system)biosrom1.rom, etc. Zipped files - C:MESSBios(system).zip Make sure the (system) name matches the one given in the readme. (example: Atari 7800 is "a7800" not "7800") Also keep in mind that individual rom names can and sometimes will get changed from release to release (happens more often in MAME than MESS tho) so it's important to read all the docs. Inky
Is it just me or does this not emulate all the fire buttons on the 52? I can't get bombs to work on Dreadnaught factor because of this...
Inky
IS there any 5200 Em that emulates all the fire buttons? The only one I can find is VSS, but it doesn't run Dreadnaught properly.
liquid_sky
Have you tried Atari800win? IT is a 400/800 emulator that also emulates the 5200. Personally I havent got the 5200 portion to work.. but its a start. http://www.zophar.net/Files/Atari800WinPLus28.zip
Inky
I actually just tried that one and it seems to work OK with the keyboard but not my gravis gamepad. I can't seem to get the second button to emulate. BTW, someone should tell the mess people about the fact that the second button doesn't emulate. ubersaurus
Where are you finding these frontends? I can't find em anywhere, and I want to run Spacewar without using the java version!
