semicolo
You mean you replaced the lcd screen and the thick lines are still there ? If so, the chip controlling the lcd must be damaged, quite impossible to fix.

Thanks 995652[/snapback] Hi put the screen with lines into the lynx unit with the screen that works. I had 3 lynx systems each one had a different problem as can be seen from the link it took me 5 hours & 3 attempts to get a system that worked, it was well worth the effort http://lynx.repairs.page.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ Has anyone got a detailed diagram or how to repair information please email me. i would like to learn more about fixing these systems. Tron2005
yes i have tried a different screen and with using the a known working screen i still get the garbled lines. what makes it impossible to fix? no availiability of parts ? do you know which IC is the LCD Controller? i have the means to remove the part and the training to replace any type of part on that board. It has pins called DL0..DL3, P0..P3,CLK1..CLK3, CL2 and DBL that are connected to the LCD through resistors and a few inverters. I have a cleaned-up schematics on left Lynx I schematicsright Lynx I schematics As far as I know there is no Lynx II schematics available on the web. But the design is almost identical to the Lynx I. And as there is no flip chips on the Lynx so it is really possible to change chips with the right tools and skills. -- Karri
semicolo
The trouble could come from those resistors/inverters instead of Mikey then.
+karri
Possible. Any component with mechanical cracks in the casing can go bad over time, But it is quite easy to check if an inverter operates properly by an oscilloscope. On the other hand the number of control lines is very small. This also means that if just one leg of Mikey goes bad then it should affect a large portion of the display. "Thick garbled lines" sounds like a large portion of the display. But it could be nice to play around with a working Lynx and connect one Mikey signal at a time to ground to see what effect it has on the display. That would help troubleshooting Lynxes in the future. Actually redrawing the schematics and layout using Eagle or some other freeware CAD tool would be quite useful. -- Karri
