dr. kwack
I read somewhere that there was an article written on connecting a Radio Shack Armatron robtic arm to an Atari 8-Bit. I think it was an issue of Antic. Anyone know which ish?

DanBoris
I actually attempted this project "back in the day", but never completed it. The hard part of it is that the Armatron was controlled mechanically. It has a single continously running motor and a gear train that was manipulated by the joysticks. The only way to computer control this was to connect solenoids to the joysticks to pull them in the appropriate direction. Dan
Dr. Van Thorp
Compute magazine also had an article about the Armitron. The Compute article gave instructions for dismantling and replacing part of the gear mechanism so that different parts of the arm could run off differtent moters which could be seperately controlled by the computer. You might want to look for this article.
+Guitarman
Here is another version of the Analog article. In the ZIP files are the scanned pages of the original articles with all the modification diagrams. armatron1.zip armatron2.zip armatron3.zip armatron4.zip Edited January 11, 2006 by Guitarman
dr. kwack
I've been checking out these articles- thanks for the info! So, would this even be worth attempting with an 800XL- sounds to me like the answer would be no. Not enough joystick ports?
