(Prototype?) Hardware Question...

Hi! I'm looking for any information about the following disk drives:

- Atari 1053

- XF 521

- CA 2002

Photos, manuals, technical specs, catalog scans... or just pure facts about these above or some other "exotic" stuff which might be used with Atari 8-bit!

I need these informations for some article regarding rare/prototype Atari-related hardware.

Thanks in advance!

Picture is offline right now, but here is the 1053 page:

Also, I have little idea what this says but it does mention the CA-2002:

Finally had a chance to update this webpage on atarimuseum.com - now includes the original schematic of the Atari 1053 Disk Drive prototype:

Wow, great stuff, thanks a lot Curt!

Interesting, as far as I can see (unfortunately the schemetics scan is not that good) the FDC is feeded with a standard clock (not faster, as in the XF-551, to compensate for the 288-300 RPM difference). So either it used a custom mechanism at 288 RPM, or it wasn't really backwards compatible with a 810/1050.

I have to get a new piece of 2X4 foam whiteboard so I can take more proper photo's I just happen to notice it during some research and snapped a quick photo of it, I'll do a better photo in a few days.

No worries Curt. It is not very important and certainly not urgent. I just was curious about the compatibility issue.

Btw, I didn't know that Atari had heavy complaints about Tandom's quality and service. Unfortunately Atari didn't have the same quality requirements when they produced the newer XF-551.
