Tempest
Thanks to Canyon Fisher, I now have my hands on a completely new version of RS Baskebtall for the 5200. This version is actually an earlier version of the original version of the game (back when it was known as Basketball). Although this version is probably only of interest to prototype collectors, it's what I discovered next that shocked me. The later build of the original version of RS Basketball (not the version that everyone knows about with the scrolling text box) has a true four player mode! This makes it one of only four 5200 games to support four players. Be sure to check out the new information: http://www.atariprotos.com/5200/software/r...sbasketball.htm Tempest
Lord Helmet
That's really cool news! Four player / two on two basketball would be alot of fun. BTW, I love your site. Lots of good info, and quite interesting.
SteveW
I'm amazed that so few games took advantage of the four controller ports. I don't like the look of this recently found version. It's very primitive looking in comparison to the original 5200 basketball game. Sure, the original was a graphically improved version of an old 400/800 game, but it still looks better than the recently found version. Vic George 2K3
To think that the Atari 5200 could have had the potential to dethrone the Intellivision as the "king system of sports".
+Allan
Nice job, Tempest. Thanks for the write-up. Hopefully some day we can try it out. It would really be great to see a four play basketball and hockey for the 5200. Maybe even a nice golf or bowling game. Allan

_Fandal_
Before I forget, here's the rom (the 4 player version). 4 Player Basketball Tempest Hi all! I really like this version with 4 players support, unfortunately there is a bug in animation causing some garbage on the screen. As nobody seems to care, I had to fix it by myself. See the attachment for fixed version. I've just added 8 instructions and changed one JMP instruction. I think it was the only serious bug in the program so it is fully playable now. Enjoy! Yeah, this is my very first post in 5200 forum! F. RealsportsBasketballRev1fixed.zip

+Allan
Yes he does. Thanks _Fandal_! Hopefully you'll do some more 5200 programming. It would be great if you could do some 8-bit conversions or maybe mess around with some of the unfinished 5200 prototypes. Allan
slampam
I totally missed this early? 4-person version. Nice clean up. Looks great!
