1050 repair?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if I posted anything about this in the past, but I have a 1050 drive that just cannot read disks at all. I do think that there's something wrong with the parking sensor for the read/write head, but I just have no skill in soldering whatsoever (I botched a parallel port adapter for digital Atari sticks). Is there anyone in the Orlando region that is capable of repairing (and possibly cleaning, as it's apparently rather dirty inside) the drive for a small fee? I'd like to get my drive working so I can stat playing my disk games again.

Clean the R/W head with VCR cleaning fluid.

They can get totally covered in oxide - you should be able to see the head through a thin layer of laquer (teflon?).

Most drives (1050 included) will seek Track 0 and back as part of the retry process when an error occurs.
