atarimastermarty
I'm not really a collector of the NES, but im a player. So just out of curiousity what are the top 10 rarest american release Nintendo games.
King Asmo
The three "adult" titles are really hard to get. Stadium Events is damn near impossible to get..I'd say it's the hardest game to get in the NES library that was sold through retail outlets. Cheetamen II is also near-impossible to get. So the top-5 are: 1. Stadium Events 2. Cheetamen II 3. the three Panesian adult titles. The next 5 would be subject to a lot of debate. Trolls on Treasure Island is a really, really tough cart to find... but it can be had on eBay for around $20 when it comes up, because it's not at all sought after. Menace Beach is also quite difficult. Action 52 is a tough title as well, but it was sold on the Home Shopping Network in Canada, so it's a bit easier to find up there. Tengen Tetris and Dragon Warriors III and IV are quite expensive, but they probably aren't in the top-10 rarity wise. The only games I've mentioned that I have are Trolls on Treasure Island [centerpiece of my collection], Tengen Tetris [not really as rare as people make it out to be], and Action 52 [i've had about 3 of these, all found in Canada]. King Atari
I heard those adult carts are the rarest. I know they're really rare, but the rarest? I'm not sure.
MattyXB
I have no idea, but here some games I like and I think some of them a bit Rare. Maybe in germany more, because they release not here: Final Fantasy, Crystalis, Dragon Warrior I - IV. But I don't know if they are Rare. Nintendo Penguin
Howdy, To my knowledge the rarest adult game is Bubble Bath Babes. The rarest liscenced game is probably Dragon Warrior 4 or maybe Lolo 3. Thats just a semi-educated guess though.
Jeffy Arensmeyer
I believe this is one of the most rare paks. 1990 Nintendo World Championship Competition Pak Super Mario Bros. Intro Screen Rad Racer Intro Screen Tetris Intro Screen This pak was never released as an official production run pak. It is one of the actual paks used during the competition. Once the competition was over, the top finishers were given the paks to keep. The DIP switches are used to set the length of the timed game play. Upon completion, a final screen show your total score. This is how the 1990 NWC were conducted. If I'm not mistaken, there were no more than 150 paks created. since it also didn't receive national distribution, I would assume it to be very rare. And let's not forget the "exploding hamster" version of Maniac Mansion. Many kids/people that had this game didn't know they had a special version and may have chunked it in the trash. ò¿ó

ubersaurus
I got the exploding hamster version too. God I love that game. I think that list is pretty accurate though, I hear the Namco Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man are rather hard to find too.
Nintendo Penguin
AH! I forgot all about those competition paks! Has anyone ever sen on for sale. I would love to add one to my collection. (probably to expensive though.) Yes, the NAMCO Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-man are supposed to be kinda rare. However, I managed to get sealed copies of both on ebay for $20 each. My guess is people didn't realize they were rare. :confused
KAZ
Mega Man 2! Oh wait, you said what is the most rare cart? At first I thought you were asking what was the coolest cart for the NES. Sorry, never mind
NE146
Isn't that Competition Cart the one that just went for over 6 grand on Ebay?
Buyatari
The NWC didn't sell sine the reserve wasn't met. The resereve was said to be at 6.5-7k whatever price the seller had purchased the game for. It was one of the 26 gold carts. The grey ones sell from time to time and sell for much less. The rarest 10 NES games besies NWC and protos in my mind? Stadium Events 3 x-rated Panesian games Secret Scout Menace Beach Flinstones 2 Little Samson Stack-up (complete) Trolls on Crackhead Island Adam
CincYnoTi
i sold both menace beach and secret scout at the CincyClassic back in november. menace beach had box and docs too. i think i sold it for under $20. the buyer seemed pretty happy . other than it being listed as A- rarity in mike etler's list, i had no idea how rare it might be. looks like it went for $46 on ebay recently. what rare games were released in PAL only format? asterix, cheetamanII? Andrew
As for rare PAL NES games, these are supa-tough to find: Rodland (near impossible to find, only released in Spain and the UK) Mr. Gimmick (Europe only) Devil World (Europe only) Crime Busters (Brazil only) As for Maniac Mansion, I thought only the PAL-only release had the exploding hamster bit taken out, while it's present in all NTSC carts. I might be wrong, so can anyone verify this? Can you tell by looking at the carts which one is the hamster version? People also say that the Myriad version of 6-in-1 (which is the version with the Myriad label slapped overtop the Caltron one is tough to find, but these might just be overzealous collectors trying to increase their collection's values, i.e., the inclusion of the obviously foreign Sachen games in the new DP guide as U.S. releases)

z28in82
WOW I thought I knew a thing or two about the ol 8-bit but I didn't know that there was cheesey porn for it. would love to get my hands on one of them just as a collection thing, I always thought one of the rarest games was Tengen's tetris but apparently I was way off. Thanks for the education Z28in82

Video Game Connections had it sitting on the shelf many times in Howell, NJ. I've also seen it in another store in the village in NYC. And I don't remember it being that expensive, maybe like $25.00. munkyxtc
The rarest game for the NES IS the 1990 NES World Championship cart...This is based on amount of copies available; however, the adult titles based on my own experience are the absolute hardest titles to obtain for the system... I have seen far more championship games than the 3 adult titles, whether it be on eBay or from fellow collectors... The championship cart was just auctioned off w/ a staring bid of $2000, it saw no bids...That's way too expensive as far as I'm concerned, if people want this amount of money for a cart, I guess I'll never own it... MattG/Snyper2099
These are all personal opinions but I do stand behind them. The rarest liscensed NES game is the Taito release of bubble bobble part II (not rainbow islands). That title was only distributed to rental stores, initially anyway. I do remember seeing it at kaybee toys in Kentucky in the early nineties though. Actually, all of the late Tatio released NES games are quite rare. (Qix, Puznic, Etc.) The rarest of the unliscensed games are as follows: 1. Bubble bath babes 2. Peek a boo poker 3. Hot slots 4. Caltron 6 in 1 5. Myriad 6 in 1 6. Chetahmen II 7. Secret scout 8. Menace beach 9. Action 52 10. Maxi 15 The NWC cart is much rarer than any of these but, since it had a production run of very little over what a typical prototype or pre-release would have, many consider it a prototype. Kind of like cubicolor or coke wins for the 2600. Since most of the Stadium Events in the U.S. were suposedly destroyed, it falls into this category as well, meaning, it IS rarer than bubble bobble part II for sure. I guess it just comes down to what you consider an actual game release. Come to Cincy! Kudos, {Subliminal message writting} MattG.
AtariDude
I have Cart Commander on my PC. I don't own any Nintendo products so I wonder how would someone use Cart Commander to get a listing of rarest games. There are quite a few places here locally that sell Nintendo games and I would really like to have a list with me to see if I get lucky and find a rare game for sale. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
