March Savings

SpiceWare

I thought I was going to get away with spending $0 this month, but Doctor Who, Season 7, Pt. 2 starts up this weekend - so I've spent $22 for the month, netting $124 in savings.

Online episodes of Being Human started to be updated again, so I'm fine with that. Face Off started to get updated as well, so I should have held off.

The $286 in cumulative savings drops the balance to $1155.

Yep. The system cost cost $1441 to implement. However, shows like Doctor Who* are not available over the air so I purchased it from iTunes for ~$22.

I used to pay $146 a month for DirecTV, so $146-22=124, the savings over what I used to give DirecTV. The $1155 balance is system cost less cumulative monthly savings, $1441-286.

*actually Doctor Who is shown on PBS here in Houston, but last I checked they were a couple seasons behind. I wouldn't mind that, but they're also showing it with a shrunk down image - there's huge black bars on ALL FOUR SIDES of the picture, so it looks like the QVC full-screen grab in this blog entry, though the image isn't as over compressed as the QVC channel is.

I recorded this weekends episode of Doctor Who on PBS. They've fixed the image problem, it's now full screen without any black bars (though the snippet of the prior show still had them on all four sides). It was Let's Kill Hitler, so they're only a season behind now - so I may wait for the PBS broadcast of the next season instead of buying it via iTunes.

Their schedule goes through the end of May. The last episode of season 6, The Wedding of River Swan, will air on May 5th after which they're restarting season 6. I suspect PBS can't get season 7 until after it's finished airing on BBC America.
