LOL that could be a Game Gear too. if you can find one that still works, that is!

I wonder if battery life has improved most due to lower power electronics / screens, higher power batteries, or larger batteries. White LEDs have obviously helped a lot.

I would think it would be lower power electronics.

 

For example, when I bought my iPhone 3GS, I realized that it had more RAM, more storage, a faster CPU, and higher resolution graphics (including a built-in monitor) than the desktop Mac I had previously owned (bought in '96). Batteries have certainly improved, but not to the degree of everything else.
