I'm not the man I used to be...

Hi there!Hey, hey! Three extra points if you came here recognizing this "Fine Young Cannibals" classic :DHm... whatever happened to FYC actually? Wouldn't it be time for a comback album or so? Hm²... maybe they already did and I didn't catch it? (Note to self: Find out wether FYC ever did a third album after their Debut and "The Raw and the Cooked"... Note to self²: Silly me, of course they did. I even own "The Raw and the Remixed"... but what about a regular third album?!?)Ah... where was I...Actually this entry was supposed to deal with how my gaming tastes have changed in 20 years.I started something I call "Revisiting old favourites" some time ago. While it worked excellent for "Ghosts'n'Goblins'n'Ghouls", it doesn't seem to work for a lot of others that have terribly aged it seems. (Or is it just me who has terribly aged?)Here's a couple of C64 games I remember enjoying back in the day and what I think of them now:World Games / Winter GamesOverall those games titles just seem to suck now. They seem so limited and one-dimensional and even worse, they're sports games :ponder:(One notable exception is 2600 Winter Games. This is really fun, still today.)LeaderboardWhat the hell was wrong with me back in the day? I once liked a sports game? :-o Even worse, golf? :-o :-oBard's TaleSee my previous blog entry ;)Mission ElevatorWell, I guess back in the day, it helped that I just didn't know Elevator Action. Besides being a lame clone, it's terribly unfair, yet I remember beating it somehow :)Silent Service, DestroyerOh my god. I remember spending weeks on these, yet I can't even play them for 5 minutes these days. At some point in life I totally lost any interest in "Simulations" it seems. I wouldn't touch a flight sim unless someone would point a gun towards my head. "Realism" just sucks. Games are supposed to be "fun"!Generally it seems that these days, I can't enjoy games that either require a keyboard or even worse "reading a manual" anymore :ponder:Ok, revisiting "Elite" next. Wish me luck.(Planned are visits of the NES version and probably Amiga Elite or "Elite Plus" for the PC)Greetings,Manuel

I've noticed the same thing. When I was 14 I lived for sitting in front of a TV for 5 hours, reading ridiculous engrish about some dragon-fighting hero and I think I actually enjoyed (!) "levelling up." Even more amazing, I had time for all that nonsense! :)

None of that anymore, though. It's all instant gratification for me now.

No manual to read, no cut scenes to sit through, no nothing. I have 30 minutes, tops, of free time a night and I'm not going to waste it!
