WANT TO GET 'em all!

I am trying to pick which homebrews to pick up from the AA store...

Here's my long list: :D

A8

Beef Drop

2600

Venture

Thrust+

Synthcart

Fall Down

Oystron

FlapPing

Jammed

Marble Craze

Power Off!

Hunchy II

Crazy Balloon

Star Fire

Strat-O-Gems

Dark Mage

Dreamcast:

Feet of Fury

Tunes:

Cabana EP+

Unfortunately, funds aren't unlimited. So I've got to narrow it down.

So, shorter list:

Beef Drop

Venture

Thrust+

Cabana EP+

Power Off!

Oystron

-----$87.95 (sale prices and using $10-off code :))

I think around $100 is my upper limit, so I can squeeze one more in there. I'd like to get one of Manuel's games, but I can't decide between Crazy Balloon and Star Fire.

Any opinions? :)

EDIT: Okay, after some comments and a recent development, my new short list is:

Beef Drop

Venture

Thrust+

Cabana EP+

Oystron

Qb

-----$87.95

And leaning towards Star Fire...

Take Seawolf instead :_(

Or save the money for Juno First, this is going to rule! :_(

I'm soon getting some new homebrews for me as well, Yie-Ar-Kung-Fu and Sky Jaguar for the Coleco :D

I like shooters, and I like Seawolf (I especially like the title tune :_(), but it isn't my favorite. I think my taste in 2600 shooters must be a little odd or something; I can't stand River Raid. :_(

Star Fire!

And Power Off is on your short list? Man, I'd get Hunchy II or Strat-O-Gems instead.

(Not that I've ever played Power Off, but that's the whole point - I know the other ones are good!) :_(

I've played Power Off. Nice looking but not fun at all. It is incredibly difficult. The best I've done is get to the third platform--on the first screen.

And I believe it could have been good. It just needed some playtesting and subsequent adjustment to the game play.

Not recommended by me. I'm a huge supporter of 2600 homebrews.

This is what happens when you develop games in a vacum.

Buy Hunchy II instead.

IMO Power Off is too easy. Once you unterstand how to play, it almost becomes a piece of cake, especially because there is not timer running against you.

I agree, there are better homebrews than Power Off, which are not on the short list.

I have only played Power Off at the Atari Age Booth at the Phillyclassic. So the trick to the game is just to wait and figure out the pattern that the robots move and make your move? Or can you wait on some of the upper platforms as well?

Either way, I think we both agree it isn't a good game.

My vote would be for Star Fire over Crazy Ballon. But not by much and Seawolf over both of them, if you can only choose one of Manuel's games.

Yup and yup.

IMO the game is really missing a timer which puts the player under some pressure.

Hmmm...interesting comments about Power Off! Maybe I'll reconsider. I kinda wanted to get one Ebivision game and it looked like the one I would enjoy most. Any other Ebi. recommendations instead of Power Off!? Or maybe I should just forget it and pick up Qb instead :_(

And Hunchy II...I dunno. I like it, but it doesn't really do it for me. The physics of it are a little off for my taste. Plus, no offense to Chris, but the sound effects drive me nuts.

You've gotta grab Qb. Andrew needs the money. :_(

One of these days, I'll start in on the Ebivision stuff, but it's pretty much at the bottom of my list. I respect their decision to not release the ROMs, but I don't agree with it. I have a hard time buying any game sight-unseen.

No offense taken - I was trying to emulate Chuckie Egg with the sound effects, but I should have included a way to turn them off as they do get annoying. I won't make the same mistake will Juno First ...

Allia Quest is a quite good shooter, but IMO Oystron is the way better shooter.

Or take Qb. :_(

Any opinions on Pesco? I'm not a huge fan of Pac-Man clones, but I do enjoy them, especially if they are well-done.

Not bad, but a bit overrated.

Oh, right. Is Dennis planning to finish that soon? From his comments I thought he was just kinda tinkering with it, not really aiming for a release anytime soon.

Okay, final list that I'm ordering right now:

Oystron

Thrust+

Star Fire (red case :_()

Beef Drop (XE)

Qb (clear case :_()

Feet of Fury

Dropped Cabana EP+, for now, and Venture in favor of the on-sale DC game.
