Well, after a lot of work I may have fixed all the collision bugs.
I've certainly fixed the worst of them, and my testing so far looks pretty good. The new shooting system works extremely well and I'm having a lot of fun just doing the testing.
I've also gone ahead and added a few sound effects. Nothing serious, placeholders really, but they really make things more enjoyable. I have some tones that play when you select your shot mode, and an "ice roar" sound that I got by throwing values into the POKEY noise generator until I got something I liked. I also have a collision tone, but that doesn't seem to be working for some reason. Oh well.
It always amazes me how much a little bit of sound can add to a game. It's sort of magical when a project that's been silent for over a year starts making beeps and boops.
I feel comfortable now releasing a demo showcasing the new shooting system. There are some known bugs here, I've confirmed that the scoring algorithm isn't quite right, but it's pretty close. I also still don't have sweeping, despite what the text at the top of the screen says. The free-guard zone rule is also not present yet. These things are all next on my to-do list.
So, here's the new demo. As always, the complete assembly source is included for anyone that's interested in it. Once I finally have sweeping, free-guard zone, and the scoring bugs fixed, I'll probably release a new one.
