Welp, here we start.

This is my start. I'm starting a different sort of collection, you see? I'm trying to find the most FUN games, not the rarest or most expensive.

These along with a standard joystick, paddle controllers, and a AC power supply cost me $13 shipped. It's an awesome start. From there, I'll trade out or sell any of the ones I don't determine to be fun enough to keep.

However, I need your help. Please post comments helping me. I need to know what 2600 games are the most fun. Not just the most fun, but also the best buy, too. I'm not looking for some proto that's $400 and isn't playable - I'm looking for that $1 game that I just can't stop playing.

I'll update this as I get more components, with pictures.

Thanks!

Hey, that's just how my collection works! :ponder:

I started some 6 years ago, armed with like 1200 ROMs and Z26. By constantly playing those games over the years, I sorted them out more and more. I was also buying games at fleamarkets and other sales, as well as eBay, where my limit was 15.- for a single game that i liked. By now I managed to shrink the list of favourites to ~50, though I'm still not done shrinking it yet. I own most of these 50 already on cartridge though, so the final descissions wether to keep a particular game can be made based on live experience ;)

It's been great fun all the way, so I hope it'll be for you as well!

There's a good list of the best games for the 2600 in this thread: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...dpost&p=1045870

I don't agree with all of it, but I think it is a pretty good list, especially the top 20.

In fact, that reminds me...I should update and post the latest rankings.

EDIT: Here are the top 20 regular, original carts, in order:

Pitfall II

Adventure

Kaboom!

River Raid

Pitfall!

H.E.R.O.

Warlords

Yar's Revenge

Asteroids

Space Invaders

Missile Command

Ms. Pac-Man

Solaris

Keystone Kapers

Demon Attack

Frogger

Super Breakout

Midnight Magic

Millipede

Seaquest

Thank you both for your assistance. I think this type of collecting suits me in two manners:

-it's pretty much the games I played as a kid, which will help me with the tyke

-it helps me as I am budgetly-challenged.

If you can suggest any cheap loose game sellers, please do. I'm going flea-market hunting over the weekend.

The nice thing is that most of the good games for the 2600 are also cheap, since so many were made. Of that list of 20 I posted, I think only Solaris, Pitfall II, and H.E.R.O. are at all pricey, and even in those cases they aren't really that pricey; all could be had, loose, for less than $10 each, probably.

I intend to just go with loose copies for that precise reason. If I find boxed copies(as the guy who's sending me my Sunnyvale 4-switch is doing), I intend on trading them.
