I have this game and it's pretty good... though I also own the complete Star Soldier series, GunHed and Override (which Sting also developed) so I tend to play those rather than this... Also Override is a much better game than Psycho Chaser but it does cost like 7x as much (my Override is a repro). And as you said you like some challenge in your shmups you should try Override. It's become one of my favorites on the system.

 

Also, the weapon swapping mechanic of this game (Psycho Chaser) makes me think of Nanostray on DS.
