Looks very nice :D Now you need to go the other way and create a version of pong with all possible bells and whistles, e.g:

  1. 4 players
  2. Radial bats
  3. Different ball types
  4. Multiple balls
  5. Power-ups and power-downs

This reminds me of those old pong consoles that had hundreds of games (e.g. tennis, hockey, football, etc.) but were all just pong variants!

Did you know that Jeffry Johnston (Calamari) had a partially finished RADIAL PONG for the 2600?

Looks like an interesting concept - perhaps you could finish this one off also?

Yeah, heh heh. It could be my new codename 'The Finisher'.

Actually not too far off the mark. There are a number of unfinished homebrews with source that I wouldn't mind nudging to completion.

Truth be told, I may just finish up that radial pong...

If you don't get going on Pop, I might have to step in... :D

That radial pong is awesome! Though paddles are a bad idea; should use Driving Controllers - makes kernel about a million times easier, too.

Yeah, heh heh. It could be my new codename 'The Finisher'.

Manuel's Worm Whomper would be glorious (nudge nudge)!

Bob, do you have some driving controllers?

And exactly what kind of game was Worm Whomper? I thought it was just a tech demo to show tonne of objects moving on the screen. :-)

I don't have driving controllers, actually. I'd like to get some, though. :D

Worm Whomper is kind of a...well, basically a sideways shooter. It has a few twists that make it interesting; you are a gardener (or something) protecting your garden from various bugs. Once all your corn (or?) is eaten, game over. It does have a LOT of enemies on the screen, though. I've only played it in emulation (INTV, IIRC), but it is pretty fun.

The 2600 doesn't need more shooters, that's for sure, but dang if Worm Whomper wouldn't be just awesome. :D

I think it would be great to have someone finish off games :D There are lots of projects that have stalled after the programmers have finished the fun parts, and I am as guilty of this as anyone! I haven't given up on PoP completely, but it reached the limitations of the Supercharger, and required a lot more sprites to be playable. I might consider porting it over to the SARA chip at some point, but for now I am concentrating on my Juno First game.

Radial Pong looks like a nice game, and it seems like it wouldn't take too much to finish it? The last update is 2002, so I doubt that Calamari will be developing it further anytime soon. I agree that it would be much better to use driving controllers as they don't suffer from the jitter issue.

Maybe my problem is I like writing kernels too much. I have enough skill that I can whip out kernels in a couple days which most other programmers would take months on, if they had any idea where to begin. Such skills don't generally mean I can whip out a finished game in a week.

Maybe I need to find someone to team up with to produce cool games. I seem to have the kernel side under control. :D
