My newest thoughts about Night Driver Arcade.

A Speed of 65

In our last blog entry, we guessed that a speed of 65 would be the same as 65 times the unit speed.  That is, 65 * 0.022 = 1.43 odometer turns per second.

In this blog entry, we make a measurement to see if our guess was correct.

Q: Does a speed of 65 equal 65 times the unit speed?

A: Yes

We record video of the gameplay and then we take screenshots from the video.

Finally, we do calculations using data from the screenshots.

Yes, a speed of 65 is equal to 65 times the unit speed.

A Speed of 100

Now, we will guess that a speed of 100 will be equal to 100 times the unit speed.

That is, 100 * 0.022 = 2.2 odometer turns per second.  Is it a good guess?

Let us make a measurement and find out.

Yes, a speed of 100 is equal to 100 times the unit speed.

Spoiler

It would seem that any allowed speed in this game will be a multiple of the unit speed.  That is, any speed n will be equal to n times the unit speed.

If further work would be done, we could predict the maximum speed of 200 in Novice mode will be 200 times the unit speed.  That is, 200 * 0.022 = 4.4 odometer turns per second.

In the next blog entry, we will begin making measurements of the acceleration of the car in all four gears, plus the deceleration of the car when you release the accelerator.
