Radio dial flip flop...

Well, a station that I started 6 years ago (106.5 The Promise .. contemp. Christian music) was bought by a big company here in the market (Cox Radio) ... They ended up letting a small local station pick up the format... so now they are 88.1 The Promise.. not as good a signal, but still on the dial.... GLAD TO SEE MY "BABY" didnt get BLOWN OFF THE DIAL...

What will COX put on 106.5??? anybodies guess right now... They're running a teaser saying it could be latin, or dance, or country... ect.. about 10 ideas... MY GUESS??? I think they will take their AM talk and go FM... we'll see.....

Cox also has an 80s station that hasnt been a money maker like that had thought, so they may flip that too... I think they will go Urban... R & B... but time will tell...

According to the recording on 106.5, Thursday morning the new format will launch.... IT'S EXCITING TO GUESS, I've had clients ask me whats going on and they speculate... It's like a mystery.... It gets clients and listeners talking, and thats good for radio in general.

Once it flips then it's time to figure out what the new format will mean in terms of competition in the market...

MEANWHILE... My boss is upto something.. I think Oldies station I sell for is gonna flip.... IF SO, I'll post it here... Depending on what they do, will effect my income, and ultimately if I can stay where I live or if I have to eventually move to a better market...

Wow, THURSDAY can be a HUGE day for me...

TUNE IN AND FIND OUT... LOL :P

I hope any changes work in your favor. I know that here in Tampa Bay, a lot of the stations that I've grown to like have flipped to Spanish talk or music. We must be in Florida or something

Up here in Toronto one of the new stations (92.5 CJAQ aka Jack) has gone to a no-DJ, mega playlist (I think 70s-90s, heavy on the 80s, with the occasional older/newer) format. No requests either (except for a special charity promotion once).

Oh, and since you're in the biz, has anyone ever tried going with (very) short commerical breaks rather than the typical lots of songs / lots of commercials format? I'm thinking that listeners would be more likely to stick if they knew the music would be back after the one ad, rather than skip around the dial.

Jack is a format that works in some markets.. and totally flops in others.. .no DJs and Voice tracking are the wave of the future... sadly, great DJs used to be the backbone of a station, now it's just another expense to be cut..

Clear Channel has gone to 30 seconds (instead of 60) for their standard commercials.. There sales people are paid higher commisions on shorter commercials.. they sell 15's & 10's.... Next year they are rumoured to be going to 2 second commercials... WHAT???? I think it's max head room all over again... LOL...

Anyway.. NO NEWS on our format yet...

Our team was brought into a meeting and told .... Stop talking about what might or might not happen... if anyone asks.. we are still the same and working to make it better.. PERIOD...

So, thats what I'm doing... I've actually had some good sales and things are starting to pick up... I've been at my job 6 months and I'm starting to build customer relationships, it's a process...

I'll keep updating as I know whats going on..
