Video relay for the Deaf

Video relay for the Deaf? What's that? I asked myself the same question and talked to a friend of mine and they showed me. Told me that it didn't cost a penny so I decided to investigate. Emailed a friend of mine who installs video relay and they agreed to come by today to hook it up for me.Basically, it's a webcam that hooks up to an internet modem and uses a router and basically, people can "call" you using your ip address (or a host name) and talk with you using the webcam. You can also call a relay service and make relay calls in sign language! It's a lot easier than typing with a TTY and it doesn't cost extra. I tested it out earlier by calling my brother and he was impressed by it. It was a bit awkward, as I need to work on my ASL skills some more. However, it still went through pretty clear. You also get to see who the relay operator is and some of them are pretty. :lust: LOL.Just thought I'd share my experience with this. It's pretty fascinating. I still need to fix my TV though so I can hook cable into it again and also use it for the video relay setup. It's really cool though! I also plan to hook my phone up to it and a flasher so that when people call, the light will flash, signaling that I have a call. If I'm not home, the person can leave a video message that will be emailed to me! Wow. Rad!:DI took a picture of the setup for those who are curious. It's hard to see, but the webcam is on top of the TV. It's really cool technology.
