The Great Melon Turkey

Flack

Watching Susan dig through old recipes and spending hours upon hours shopping for ingredients (ordering many of the sugar free ones online) and whipping up desserts in the kitchen, I got inspired. I wanted to make something for Thanksgiving, too. The only problem was, what?

Susan found this online and forwarded it to me.

It's a turkey, and no, this picture has not been reduced in size. This is the actual picture that I had to work with, along with a paragraph or so of instructions that went like this: "Get the ingredients and make it look like the tiny picture."

Based off of that, here's what I came up with:

Susan did all the shopping for me: a melon (for the body), a pear (for the head) red and orange bell peppers (for the feet and wings) and grapes, cheese and ham (for the tail feathers). We already had the raisins (eyes), toothpicks and skewers.

If you ever want to make one, my instructions are as follows: "Get the ingredients and make it look like the slightly larger picture." Really, it wasn't that hard. I cubed the cheese and ham and Mason and I put them along with grapes onto the skewers. I cut a slice off the bottom of the melon so it wouldn't roll around and stuck the pear on with a couple of toothpicks. The picture I used as a guide was so small that I had to "wing" the wings and the feet; they turned out okay.
