Invading Spaces -- Almost Sold Out!

After four months of sales, the first run of Invading Spaces (100 copies) has basically sold out (I actually have four copies left, for anyone looking for a last minute Christmas gift for that arcade-loving man or woman in your life). I have more copies on the way, but it'll be two weeks before they're here.

Invading Spaces has sold at a slower pace than Commodork did. I don't think this is because Invading Spaces is an inferior book. My biggest problem with Invading Spaces has been marketing issues -- specifically, who to market the book to and where to market it. To date I've mostly marketed the book through arcade websites, but nost of the people who frequent those sites are people who already know the basics of arcade game collecting, which is mostly what my book covers. Commodork also had the advantage of being reviewed on Slashdot by Jason Scott (author of the BBS Documentary), which sold a hundred copies of the book overnight. I recently checked with a couple of print magazines about running ads after the first of the year, so maybe that will introduce the book to a new market.

Here's a funny anecdote. The other day I was getting in the elevator and someone saw me holding a copy of Invading Spaces. "Invading Spaces, I've heard about that. Is it any good?" the man asked. Now obviously the guy has never heard of the book and was just trying to make conversation, so I took advantage of the situation. "Oh, of course, it's wonderful. Incredible!" As he was parting the elevator I let him in on the joke.
