Two-Block Move 2009: More Room, New TV, Lotsa Crap

Well, my move is complete! It took about 5 days to move the two blocks over and up the hill but it was all worth it! My wife has been looking at craigslist apartment ads for months, after a dispute with the owner of our previous place. He did a crappy job of maintaining the building and our requests for even simple things (replace broken window blinds) were always repeatedly ignored. So a couple of weeks ago she saw an ad for a place in our neighborhood where the listed rent was $300 less than what we were paying and we called the guy up and walked right over to look at it. It appeared to be smaller than our old place, but we talked it over and decided to take the plunge. No one likes moving, but I hate getting ripped off on rent more than anything.

So we moved this weekend in a U-Haul and got all of our stuff in and guess what? The new apartment is actually LARGER than our old one, even though it had appeared smaller. It's carpeted, which might have made it look more cozy. The best part is that my gaming room/home office/man cave is now easily DOUBLE the size of the old one. I am in the process of setting it all up and it is going to be amazing. The 7800 is already hooked up with the Cuttle Cart.

On the way to return the truck to U-Haul I noticed a BIG old TV sitting on the sidewalk a few blocks from my new place. Pulled over, my buddy and I loaded it onto the truck, and I adopted it for the game room. 32 inches! I was working with 24 before because it's all I had room for but this one fills out the room nicely--what are the odds of one being right down the street when I had the means to move it? Fate, I tell ya.

Other enhancements include controller storage in closet drawers of the game room, plenty of shelving, and with the carpeting I can sit on the floor and play for the full old-school experience. The drawback is that there is no cable outlet in there... our hookup appointment is tomorrow and I am hoping they can run something in from outside. Otherwise, I am going to have my hands full trying to run cable along baseboard, etc. But that is a minor worry. I absolutely love our new place and the new gameroom is going to be Atari heaven!

I moved some stuff that I probably should have sold or given away beforehand, so if you are reading this blog post and want things like a box of controller parts or crap I find, just let me know in a comment or PM. Most of it I just want to give to a good home. I'll follow up with a big old list.

Really missed AtariAge the past few days--no net access and all--but it's nice to come back and be reminded of how awesome this community is. What a bunch of great people.
