Hi there!
While this is Barbarian II, it is not the sequel to Barbarian...
...but the sequel to a one on one fighting game from Palace sharing the same name. Obviously, back in the day trademarks weren't that important and of course, Psygnosis' Barbarian later also got a sequel called Barbarian II
If you are wondering about the screenshot above: Yup, you could also chose to play as a Barbarella in this one. I know exactly what you're thinking now, and yes indeed, there is a hacked version available allowing you to play her nude
The game has really gorgeous graphics, with huge protagonists fighting colorful and well animated monsters of any kind. The gameplay got enhanced for the sequel. You're not just doing plain arena fights this time around, but actually playing an action adventure.
Fighting your way through three dungeons with ~25 rooms each, your mission is to collect two helpful artifacts in each, which are supposed to equip you with enough power to face your arch nemesis Drax once again.
I found the game pretty hard overall. It's often throwing you into unfair situations and navigating through the dungeons is a real pain, even with a map at hands. Without tons of save states, I'd have never made it this far:
Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another game from Palace in the form of "Cosmic Pirate", but first it'll continue with something else.
Greetings,
Manuel
