Inter-Tubing

So many YouTube videos... so little time.

So I thought I'd help sort through a few that are worth watching, to save you the trouble.

First up, animation:

Insane cardboard animation:

Insaner bunny animation:

(A making-of video is available

.)

Animating with sheep. No, I'm not kidding. This one even features Pong!

A sort-of poignant story, featuring bubblewrap (language possibly NSFW):

One of my

meets "Weird Al" Yankovic!

And now, a message from our sponsors:

A classic commercial from my childhood. I still remember the alternate lyrics my sister and I made up for this... over 40 years ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFEkfipbI3Q

"McDonald's is your kind of place

With hamburgers in your face

And french fries up your nose

And pickles between your toes

The last time that I went there

They stole my underwear

McDonald's is your kind of place!"

Hey whaddaya want... I was three. ;)

A brief musical interlude:

One of the all-time great recordings of the 60's, and the best cover of "Summertime" ever. (Ignore the silly cowboy hat.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xrhcQcAJSI

And finally... three very funny Tron parodies:

Enjoy!

I liked #2 best of the 3 Tron episodes.

Me too. Very funny premise, and I love all of the classic videogame sounds they used for the "channels".

I really like the third one too, because it makes for a great visual gag. One of the lesser-known hazards of living in cyberspace. :)

Hi there,

"McDonald's is your kind of place

With hamburgers in your face

And french fries up your nose

And pickles between your toes

The last time that I went there

They stole my underwear

McDonald's is your kind of place!"

Hey whaddaya want... I was three. ;)

That is interesting. All these years I thought the kids in my neighborhood made that up :)

We sung it as...

McDonald's is your kind of place

They'll sell you rattlesnakes

Hamburgers up your nose

French fries between your toes

If I were you I wouldn't go there

They'd take you underwear

McDonald's is your kind of place...YOUR KIND OF PLACE!!

I've taught it to my kids :)

I've run into other things like that where I always assumed it was something made up by me or my friends, and yet it turned out to be something far-reaching. (There are other lyrics posted on that video's YouTube page as well, which are remarkably similar.)

While that's completely expected now - thanks to the internet - I wonder how things like that managed to spread so far 40 years ago? Or is it just that common for kids to make up those kind of lyrics with universal themes like food getting shoved up your nose and underwear being stolen? ;)

It would make an interesting Master's Thesis. :)

It's entirely possible my sister heard it from someone else in elementary school, and taught it to me. (I vaguely remember it happening during a car trip somewhere.)

I guess the really frightening thing, is how McDonald's managed to successfully burn something like that into the brains of kids that stuck with them for the next 40 years.

There's another McDonald's jingle I recall, but have yet to find the video for it...

"Oh McSaturday is a great day for McBurgers,

And McSunday is a great day for McFry-i-ies,

On McMonday and McTuesday, and McWednesday and McThursday,

McShakes are a McWonderful surprise!

Oh McFish are always biting on McFridays,

But which day is McBetter than the rest?

Every day's a great day for McDon-on-ald's,

But the day before tomorrow is McBest!"

Thanks, Ray. :)

I knew I'd heard that McDonald's melody somewhere...

Even though I have yet to find the specific version I remember, iTunes has 480!! versions of "Down By The Riverside" done by everyone from Louis Armstrong to Elvis, Jimmy Durante to Alabama, and Peter Paul & Mary to Bill Haley & The Comets. I've never looked at the complete results for a single song on iTunes before... it's rather startling. I wonder which song has the most versions?

Anyway, thanks Wikipedia for jogging my memory!

Interesting coincidence: the week after posting this, on Iron Chef America, Alton Brown made up a song to "Down By The Riverside" in the McDonald's tradition:

"Kitchen Stadium is your kind of place,

Summer truffles in your face,

Udon noodles between your toes,

We eat chilies up your nose,

And don't forget The Chairman's looks,

He gets them out of comic books,

Kitchen Stadium is your... (stops singing)

You know, I think I'm going to rework this last line during the battle."

Then after the battle, he said The Chairman had a suggestion for rewriting the ending...

"And don't forget The Chairman's charms,

I hope he doesn't come and break my arms,

Kitchen Stadium is your kind of place"
