You can't erase dirt

I spent more time fixing the RPS label today. There's been an area of the drawing that's been bugging me all along, but it wasn't until I printed it out and actually drew on top of it with a pen that I figured out how to fix it. It ended up being a line that needed to be moved, and an area re-shaded a little bit. Then all of the sudden that area seemed to "snap" into place. I was also able to make a couple of other areas work better, so it was worth the effort.Sometimes you just have to see it in the real world to find the flaws.I've noticed this with other things as well. If I'm typing up something in the computer, no matter how many times I proofread it on screen, I almost always find something to fix after I print it out. It's like there's a blind spot when I'm reading things on the computer. The same holds true, oddly enough, with web pages. When I'm writing a review or a blog entry, I won't catch certain things until after it's up on the web. Even if I preview it first (which looks identical to being on the web), I'll still miss things that I'll only catch after it's been uploaded. Maybe it's just a matter of how many times I proofread it. Maybe I somehow look at it differently when it's "final". Either way, it's a weird phenomenon, and I have this sneaking suspicion it's not going to go away.Something else I noticed recently... you can't erase dirt.I was working on the RPS label, cleaning up an area in Photoshop, and I couldn't get rid of this one little speck. Now, the RPS artwork consists of over 40 layers, so tracking down a few errant pixels on one of them can be difficult. I have to turn layers on and off until I find the culprit. No matter where I looked, I couldn't find the layer it was on.Turned out... my monitor was dirty.Pesky real world.
